This painting is of a water hole/spring on my great -great grandfathers country called; “‘Ban Ban Springs”. Great grandfather Boubijan is from the Wakka Wakka nation. This water hole never runs dry and is of great significance to my people and was used for their survival.
BAN Ban Springs is a sacred sight for the Wakka Wakka people and the first in Queensland to be formally recognised as an Aboriginal cultural heritage site. … It’s believed that Ban Ban was originally given its name by H. Herbert who borrowed the phrase from the local Wakka Wakka people which is known to mean grass.
